Roses In The Shade

I have several "sun loving" roses which have received no sun at all for the last two months. They have luscious growth, beautful blooms and no disease.
All the others - in same garden area but which are in full sun have Black Spot, Mildew and Aphids.
Does anyone know why this may happen?
They all receive the same organic treatment through the year - however every year about this time the ones in the shade out do the ones in the sun.

RE: Roses In The Shade

Hi.. I have the same problem the ones grown in the shade are terrific even though I was told by a certain rose grower from Victoria on this Forum that they would not flower very well he was so wrong.. Now those ones in the sun do pick up all the nasty things, so I was wondering if maybe the trees above protect them where the ones out in the open would catch everything on the wind just a thought. Are yours grown in the shade of trees or buildings.. Another bonus they dont fade like the ones in the sun do either.. Sorry I am not much help maybe someone with a lot more knowledge will be able to give us the right answer.

I will watch this thread with interest...Cheers...MM.

Thanks so much MM for your reply. My roses are shaded by my house. The blooms last longer than those on the roses in the sun, which is another bonus. They also don't start receiving much sun until almost Summer - so they are shade bound for much of their growing year. Interesting hey?

Yes very interesting, and if you have any spare time look through some of the posts as I can remember Tom from W.A. writing about ones that he recomends that you only grow in the shade.. I have tried to find it for you but once again Gardenweb's search button does not work.. Just like this forum no one answers any more, quess they have got sick of all the ads floating across the screen and moved to a more friendy website you will find lots of us over here at ausgarden Come over and have a look ...Cheers..MM
