| Davo, I live in Bundy too and you can take pups off just about anytime of the year here although I prefer not to do it during winter. You can use a sharp knife or a small handsaw and with most bromeliads you don't need roots. I like to pot pups up in a free draining mix such as cymbidium mix and use wooden skewers to hold them in place until they form roots. I also don't use any fertiliser on them at this stage. Seeing that you are in Bundy are you aware of The International Tropical Foliage and Garden Society Inc.? We are based in Bundaberg and hold meetings every month at members homes (some of which are specialist bromeliad growers). We also produce our own tropical plant magazine 'Tropical Topics' which is sent to members around Australia and overseas. We will soon also be commencing a branch of the society in Brisbane. If you are interested send me an email and I will get back to you with details of the society and meetings etc. Andrew. |
