I've never heard of Dianella 'Little Red' but there is a selection of Dianella revoluta called 'Little Rev'. It's very similar to the more common D. tasmanica but slightly shorter, with foliage having a bluish cast, and tolerant of drier conditions. It has the same blue flowers and blue berries. I think when it comes to flower and berry color, all Dianella are pretty much the same. D. tasmanica 'Blushy' has very pale blue, almost white, flowers. There also are some very nice variegated forms: D. tasmanica 'Variegata' ("marginata') has white margined leaves and D. t. 'Yellow Stripe' has stripes running the length of the leaf. Joe

If you mean the lowest leaves turn yellow, water is naturally resorbed during normal growth, and the pace is faster when dry. Paradoxically, under-watering and over-watering can have the same appearance. Too much water can result in fungal infection and loss of roots which results in the upper parts of the plant getting no water.. The other possibility is unlikely, but if the upper leaves are yellow like those below, your plant could be variegated, meaning not all leaves are uniformly green because of a growth point mutation. The plant shown keeps going in and out of variegated and normal growth. I am trying to develop a clone with stable variegation that can be propagated. I have never seen another one of these, and google searches for variegated C. tetragona do not produce results. You planted a variegated hydrangea in zone 4b? Is it a macrophylla?...If so, the yellow leaves will be the least of your problems as it will most likely not survive winter anyway. Sorry to be so blunt, but this plant is not hardy in the ground in 4b. If you pot it up and winter protect it in a shed, barn, garage, unheated room, etc., you might get to enjoy it for more than one season.....yg

Is this a variety of Euonymus japonica? That species is common in the Mid-Atlantic of the USA. but I know there are lots of species. Not familiar with the entire genus, but some species just will NEVER be happy in a Mediterranean climate..., too dry (rainfall, humidity, etc.) Guessing they may also be acid loving (but not sure). I can't grow Euonymus anymore either, so I do miss them. My deer loved to eat them.
