Ok, first tomatoes don't climb anything on their own. They have no grasping tendrils. They (indeterminate or vining types) will run along the ground or need to be caged or tied to stakes of some kind. Snow peas, depending on the variety, when planted closely usually don't need anything to climb except each other. However some taller varieties will benefit from a 3' tall piece of fencing, or some pea netting, even some dead branches stuck into the ground among them as long as it runs the length of the row. They don't do stakes or tripods or arbors all that well on their own. True climbing vegetables like vining varieties of cucumbers, pole beans, and some melons and squash usually need a very tall support of 6' or higher. Cattle panels work well and so do tall arbors and/or tripods depending on how you plant the seeds around the support structure. Hope this helps. Dave

Install a separate watering system for the vines - doesn't have to be fancy - so you can water them on their needs, not the lawn's needs. Cat's claw will grow HUGE and you have to make sure it doesn't collapse the fence and attack the house. Trumpet vines are easier to keep under control. Creeping fig is a bit tender for a fence - it regularly died back even on a house wall for us. Mine isn't orangy; the photo I posted is true to color on my monitor. It is the truest red I have in my garden, really not on the blue or orange side of things. It will surely get large enough - mine is over 8' now (after 5 years in poor soil after starting as a tiny rooted cutting), and MOBOT says that it can grow to 15'. Mine is restricted by the 5' height of the obelisk. I am not sure why many sites suggest 8' tall and 12' wide - perhaps they are going on the height of the trellis. You will need to give it something for the twining stems to wrap around, perhaps wires.

I grow both 'Arctic Beauty' and 'Issai' (which is a different species and is supposed to be self-fertile but is also said to do better with a male pollinator. I grow them on the north fence - and prune regularly to keep the growth under control - more pruning needed out there now! I did get some fruit but it didn't ripen - and I'm much south of peren.all! I like the 'painted' leaves and grow the Arctic Beauty' mainly for that - if we ever get edible fruit that ripens, that will be a bonus :-) I like the look of the bare stems at the base as I'm trying to make it sort of look tree-like. When I checked hardiness ratings, I found a range of numbers, the lowest being 2, so who knows how they'd do for you?! Some pictures: - From the back porch just now, looking down on the north alley fence - everything is about 2 weeks behind in this coll, damp weather we've had here since early spring so the fence is a bit bare and flowers are late! You should be able to identify the kiwi by the look of the bare stems at the base (It's on the far right, with stems in need of pruning! The 'Serotina' honeysuckle next to it also needs some pruning!): 'Arctic Beauty' leaves: 'Issai' kiwi flowers - which sort of remind me of hellebore flowers...
