Lovely blooms. They really are very large.
They are for sale in our flower shops, but of course they are imported from warmer climes.

We have given away abt 40 blooms in the last 3 weeks.When the neighbours have finished with them they will give them back
and I'll chop them up for the compost

What is the small white flower? Looks like some sort of Jasmin.
Some blooms that we buy here are considered weeds
on your side of the world. When I was in New Zealand, I was shocked to see calla lilies growing in ditches and being called weeds.
When I paid $15.00 for each bloom.

Yes very nice, Chas. They are about the toughest plant in the world, I reckon, apart from maybe agapanthus. Once they are in and settled, you'd need a couple of very strong blokes with crow-bars to move them.
I was surprised to find seed on my BOP a couple of years ago, but it happens occasionally, even the seed is unique as it has a little bright orange feathery "hat". They are slow-growing though, if you wanted a border of them from seed you'd need to wait a long time.
Do you get the yellow one there - Mandella's gold" - its nice too.

Yes Inga It is Jasmine and has a strong scent that is liked by many and not appreciated by some, we like it but it has to be kept under control very vigorous and invasive.
The BOP is outgrowing it's position and will have to be cut back and as you say Alison it is quite a job.I removed a big one from the back yard abt 15 years ago and gave pieces to neighbours and family and they all survived,they really are tough! I haven't seen any seed or yellow varieties

The jasmin does pretty well, on my sunny windowsill, but lo behold if I forget to water it, it dies on me.
I've also seen the white BOP, in Hawaii, but they grow more like a tree.
Who ever lives on the other side of the fence, enjoys the "fruit of your labors".

Well Inga it works both ways as our neighbour has a lovely
garden and we share where possible.
