Golden Monarch

Hello to everyone on the forum.
I thought I would post a few pictures of Golden Monarch. Harvested one today. Tangy sweet taste. Very enjoyable. Has a slight reddish tinge on the blossom end that extends into the fruit.
Ignore the patch of grass in one photo. Still learning about iPhoto. And the pins are also a menace, but will get it right next time.
Cheers
Craig

Looks great, Craig! Nice colour and texture.

I'm surprised there is still a patch of grass left in your garden. *winks*

RE: Golden Monarch

Lovely colour Craig. And I'm pleased to hear that they have a tang. I do love a tangy tomato.

You seem to solved your photo posting problems. Well done.

RE: Golden Monarch

Gee, Craig...thought you were referring to the butterflies....was going to give you a couple of recipes!

Shax

RE: Golden Monarch

Great to see the slide show Craig, and that Golden Monarch looks most attractive! I love that little pink blush in some of these yellow tomatoes.

Congratulations on getting your pics edited to a managenable size. We can expect to see more of them now, yes?

RE: Golden Monarch

Looks great, Craig. In fact, it looks like a bigger Golden Queen, which has a pink blush from the blossom end. Golden Monarch? Golden Queen? Mmmmmm. All we need now for the trifecta is Golden Camilla - a leathery-skinned, horse-like tomato.

 o
RE: Golden Monarch

...and cat-faced! (ooh err!)

 o
RE: Golden Monarch

Send it to Prince Charles for evaluation. If he wants to live in its pants, it's a winner.

RE: Golden Monarch

Thanks Finbar, I now have a name for my unexplained, probably crossed red balls that I thought were Eva Purple Balls,
Camilla Parker Balls,
yahooo , what a hoot.

RE: Golden Monarch

Hello to everyone on the forum.
Being a devoted royalist I will simply ignore all those misguided comments and go back to polishing my portrait of The Queen (LOL).
Golden Monarch does share a common parentage with Golden Queen. Another Livingston variety is Golden Beauty-which I have grown previously-and this too has a pink blush on the bottom end as well. Craig NC is a well of information on Livingston tomato varieties.
Try to stop me now Patrina! I admit the grass is not really exciting. Spatz, after all the rain we have received down here it is no wonder we have green grass.
Shax, do Monarch butterflies make good meals? A recipe? Would need an awful lot of butterflies to get a decent feed!
Cheers
Craig

RE: Golden Monarch

Why does Craig have a photo of Alan Jones in his home?, and when did Parker Bowles become a female?.
She's only going out with him 'coz she thought he was a ride at the show. It's taken her this long to find the coin slot.....mutter.......mutter.....head like robber's dog

 o
RE: Golden Monarch

Adam that's very unkind, we all know love is blind!
And Shax as someone who has lost his true love & hopes one day to win her back you should be more understanding!
I say good on 'em, so long as they're happy why should anyone else care, it's unlikely he will ever get to be king so there's no problem as far as I'm concerned.
Sarah *who also thought this was going to be a post about butterflies!*

RE: Golden Monarch

Gee, Sarah,
I thought the Brit monarchy was fair game...if my girl looked like that, she'd scare a bulldog out of a butcher's shop...she'd make an onion cry...she'd...I think you get my message.....

Regards,

Shax
(no, I don't claim to be a stunner, but really, you Monarchists...and yes, I agree, happiness is all important for the drover's dog and her man...)

RE: Golden Monarch

When was the last time anyone used the term "head like a robber's dog" in reference to a man. I thought this was a forum about growing things, not insulting women..

I am no fan of the monarchy - I am not supporting them - but Camilla is an average looking woman - she has mannerisms born of the way she lives, but other than that she is an ordinary looking middle aged woman.

I thought that we were all over this sort of stereotyping!! Disappointed !

RE: Golden Monarch

Great-looking tomato, Craig. Tangy sweet taste sounds great. Are you going to grow it again?

This year I had three yellow/oranges — Big Yellow, Indian Moon and Yellow Oxheart — and one bicolour, Regina's Yellow. Of them RY was really fun and fruity and BY was a great big slicer which has given me ONE huge fruit in all this time. However, there are two more fruits on the plant and one is turning a good colour. Hopefully, no fruit fly attacks.

Grub, whose ghastly dial can stop a clock.

 o
RE: Golden Monarch

I can second that last comment. I have seen a picture and he has a scrawny dial much like mine, only younger, sigh. Please don't be too sensitive Jen, we refer to the leader of the freeworld, (spews), as little jonny, or George Dubya.
In fact we sh*t can a lot of famous folk here, but I do not think any of us are into demeaning women.

 o
RE: Golden Monarch

I was referring to him actually, but they're both ugly, really ugly. It's not their appearance either, it's their lack of inner beauty shining through. Sorry if I didn't make myself more understood.
I actually think they are perfect for each other.
Luckily they're so stupid, it would only take one bullet to silence the two of them.
I'd pay to watch that.

 o
RE: Golden Monarch

adam I don't believe you used to be a buddhist!

 o
RE: Golden Monarch

Gee Adam, that's a bit aggro.
I guess my point is that the expectations for girls and boys are so different - it's ok for boys to be ordinary - but succeed . Girls have to be extraordinary to succeed - still. And it's still ok to condemn women on the basis of appearance only.

anyway - I have just picked my first large tomato - a rouge de marmande about 200 grams. I have heaps more in it and my "first class", but the ripening is so slow!!!!!! I keep goihg up the back and saying "ripen ya buggers", but they keep ignoring me .....no fair.

 o
RE: Golden Monarch

I wasn't trying to be aggro. I was just having a bad day. I have very strong opinions about the "Ruling Classes", but they have nothing to do with gardening, so I should just shut my gob and talk about vegetables. I didn't mean to offend anyone. That's the last You'll hear from me about "THEM".Sorry again. I believe everyone is equal, even the ones who think they're more equal. They can't help it.

RE: Golden Monarch

Great thread.

I grew Golden Monarch this year for the first time thanks to Craig.

Exactly as he says. Tangy and sweet, but with great depth for a yellow.

I also grew Golden Queen and the two taste the same. GM has a greater slice., bigger, yet no hollow bits (no hollows on GQ either) GM is coming back as my best yellow thus far.

It's late season though :)

Cheers. Grub

RE: Golden Monarch

Hello Grub.
Good to hear from you.
I thought this thread had fallen off the edge of the world! I am glad you enjoyed Golden Monarch. It is one of my favourites and I grow it every year. It is a later maturing type for me also-although not as late as Aunt Gertie's Gold.
Cheers
Craig
