Jacaranda didn't flower

The first year we moved into our house the Jacaranda flowered, not brilliantly, but it put on a nice show. This year not a single bloom, and others in the area are flowering. It's got it's new leaves now, which look healthy and happy. Can anyone suggest why this might be?

Mine didn't either, but the ones across the road did. Maybe it's because of the all the rain we've had (have you had any?) and ours is in fairly clayey soil, whereas across the road its all sandy. Ours would be still fairly wet. Apparently jacarandas do better in dry conditions, being from Brazil (I think).

Doona's spot on - wet seasons nearly always produce patchy flowers, watch out too, for soil that is too rich if planted in a general bed. Both the Jacaranda and Illawarra flame trees tend to be brilliant flowerers in drought seasons.
Cheers,

I have 2 Jacarandas aprox 12m apart and a similar age, over 5 under 10 years, clay soil, drought for the past 2 years. 1 tree has flowered once, 2 years ago and nothing since, go figure.
cheers.

Hi All, if you want more flowers on your Jacs just leave them alone, to much water and TLC, will only make sweet fast, green growth.Fertiliser is also a no no as it introduces to much sweet growth which is easily attacked by the borers and then you get fungal attck inth holes left behind. The dryer the season the more flowers and seeds produced, if that makes sence. Good luck. Peter

Have you tried wacking them with a stick. My mother wack her's every year. Her neighbour who planted their Jackaranda at exactly the same time as mum has only had it flower once. Hers flowers every year. She was going to tell her neighbour, but was worried they would think she was a nut case.
