Flowerless Poinciana

| This new place we moved in in Sept. had several fair size poinciana trees, but not fully grown ones. There were no leaves whatsoever left on them, now they're full of leaves, but not a single flower. We haven't done anything special to them, they just got the rain, no extra watering. What could be the reason for this??? or is there a chance they will still flower but just later??? |

| Hi Elfi and welcome, It can take up to 10 years for a Poinciana tree to flower. I have one here in Brissie and it is four years old no flowers yet, it will come. I planted one in Townsville and it flowered in its fifth year, the year we left. Poinciana trees always loose their leaves in the cold weather yes even in Townsville. No I dont think it will flower this year. But with all the care you will give them during the coming year you never know what will happen next year Cheers. MM. |

| Thanks very much "mistymorn" and "amelie" for your answers, well they seemed really neglected!!!! So will keep at it, but the bloke who sold us the place must have been a "storyteller"... answering to my question whether they had been flowering before "oh yeah love! had plenty of flowers....". I'll just have to wait and hope for the best next year!!!! |

Hi Elfi, Sometimes Poinciana's get lots of flower s some times not.Our funny weather we have had so far this summer, some very hot days and some very cool days, last week some windy days, and now some very humid days, so the poor plants and trees (animals also) cannot make up their minds which season we are having at present. I suspect that all these Victorians that have moved up here, last few years have brought some of their Melbourne weather with them and now we are getting all these different weather conditions in one week as well as the ones we used to.This is why we are not getting as many flowers as we used to. I don't know what we can do to remedy this situation? Good luck. Peter r Queenslander. |
