Frothing crepe myrtle

Hi,
My crepe myrtle has lots of froth in the forks of the branches. As far as I can see, it is caused by woolly aphids. How such a little creature can create such a large amount of froth is beyond me. Is this harming the tree? Has anyone experienced this? What should I do about it, if anything?

It isn't caused by woolly aphids, it is a froth protecting the nymphs (juvenile) of the spittle bug (also called froghoppers). They are not really of any great concern unless the tree is particulary young. Cheers, Dee. |
