native frangipani

I have a young native frangipani, which is about 2.5m tall. It's a couple of years old and has its first flowers and good new growth. The problem is it's close to a power line. I was wondering if keeping it pruned to the height it's at (or no taller than 4 metres) will make it more compact. Or will it still lose it's lower branches and not be much of a tree?

I will watch this with interest. Mine are looking really sad and straggly at present with not many lower branches.

I tip prune all my natives, except the Grevillea's them I take to with a saw sometimes, expecially when they get too leggy so they are all growing into lovely bushy shrubs and trees now.

I also have a Hymenosporum flavum ( Native Frangipani ) its only small I got it in May and I also asked for help on this forum, so have a look at the link below it will help. Cheers..MM.

PS. Its a good idea to do a Search as sometimes those questions have been answered before. Type in the name on the first page of the left where the green border is.

Here is a link that might be useful: Native Franipani

The best Hymenosporum I saw in my area was one grown in full sun on a footpath. The house since sold and it chopped.
Like many rainforest trees, they will grow lower in harder conditions and sometimes provide a better show. I have one which is probably 6 m now in shade, and donlt even get to enjoy the flowers. I would go for a bit of pruning, but wait for more answers from those with experience.

Sorry, MM, I always forget to do a search first. I think I'll ask a question here because I always get an answer and then just go right ahead and post the question without thinking. I'll remember to search first next time.
Thanks for your help too, Allison.
Donna.
