| Does anyone grow Magnolia grandiflora in Australia? If so, how are they doing in your climate? thanks |

| Yes I have one. Took 18 months after planting but this spring had really started to go well. Somehow the main trunk (about a cm in diameter) was broken - have taped it back together but no idea if it will recover. Most of the foilage was attached to the broken part with a secondary branch further down (it broke/split about a foot from the base. Not happy about it. It is in South Australia. |

| In Sydney and some other parts of New South Wales they are quite common, and there are trees in some old gardens that may be 150 years old. I think the humid summers and late summer-early autumn rainfall peak suit this species well. At 800-1000 m elevation in the nearby Blue Mountains they don't do quite so well, though tolerating the few degrees of frost we get there in winter. The Sydney trees don't get to great heights, maybe 60 ft (18 m) max, but I have seen some with trunks around a metre in diameter close to the ground. |
