Manchurian pear trees

| I live in Perth and would like to plant some Manchurian pear trees near the house and pool. Does anyone know anything helpful. I saw a beautiful garden in a magazine planted with Manchurian pears. I live on 3acres but want a more formal garden close to the house. Please do not mention natives because I must have at least 30 natives mature trees. I have done my bit for birds with grevillas and Banksia trees and red gums. |

| Hi Kazwood, Manchurian pears are wonderful. Much better than natives! They have stunning flowers in spring, a delightful green canopy in summer and the most amazing autumn display. They should do OK in Perth, although you might not get such a long or strong autumn display. Give them a good soil to grow in - plenty of manure and lots of mulch to give them a good start. They will grow quite quickly in good conditions and very slowly in poor soil. |

Thanks Robyn A friend of mine was told that Manchurian Pear Trees grow well in Perth. Unfortunately the only people who know of them are the ones trying to sell them. I will plant up well with manures and keep well watered. Thanks for your help. I will buying some very soon. |

| Anyone know of a tree that grows and looks like a manchurian pear tree but also produces an edible fruit such as a pear. Do all pears grow upright ? |
