Yes I know it's a naughty tree to have but does anyone know where I can obtain some seeds and/or root cuttings of Rhus typhina or any other Rhus.I want to grow them into large Bonsai.Regards Conifer_Nut.

Conifer nut... As luck has it I was walking in the Waite arboretum today at lunchtime and stopped to adrire a Rhus sp. can't remember which one. It had fine ferny foliage, very different from the poisonous variety with the scarlet autumn foliage. I noticed it had small green fruit on it so I can keep an eye on them and collect some seed for you later in the year when they ripen, if you'd like...

Yes please Jamus S.If you could keep an eye for the seeds to ripen it would be much appreciated. It sounds like it might be a type of Rhus called Rhus typhina "laciniata" which has cutleaf foliage very much like a fern leaf.I have two of these growing at home however I would like some more so I am very interested in obtaining these seeds you mention. It turns a briliant scarlet orange in autumn and when viewed on a cloudy day or just as the sun goes down, the foliage appears to "glow" this beautiful orange/scarlet colour.I'll keep in touch. Many thanks for the reply,I was beginning to think I wasn't going to get a reply.Regards Conifer_ Nut.

Rhus taitensis, a native of Australia and parts of SE Asia is freely available in QLD. R.taitensis doesn't have the allergenic problems of some of the other Rhus. Doug.
