Transplanting Bay Laurel Tree
| | |
Posted by innyanga WA Aust (My Page) on Fri, Jul 23, 04 at 7:28
| We have a Bay Laurel tree which is at least 10 years old. It is a beautiful tree, having a straight trunk, and rounded canopy. However, the previous owners planted it very close to the house, and, now it has reached a height of approx. 160cm, it is very cramped.
Has anyone had any experience transplanting a Bay Laurel of this maturity? Do they have extensive root systems? Can they be transplanted from ground to pot (obviously not if the root system is extensive)? Is there an optimum time of year to transplant (we're in Perth, WA)? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance. |

Planting into a pot would be a bad idea. Now is a good time to move it - get plenty of the fibrous roots - don't worry about the big ones so much. Make sure you plant it the same way it is facing now, so tie something on the north or mark it with a texta and make sure it is facing the same way. It should be fine as long as it does not have to cope with a sudden lot of hot weather. Robyn |
