Should you root prune weeping maple?

Could anyone give me some advice on planting out a weeping maple? It has been two years in the same pot. Should I reduce the roots when it is dormant or is this unnecessary?
Thanks Shirley

Shirley, they are slow growers anyhow so keeping them in a pot is no problem. To plant out tease out roots a bit and cut any circular ones or damaged. You probably could take off all the soil and bareroot them but this would cause a major setback. The aim is to make sure that the roots venture into the surrounding soil and not stay contained in the rootball.
