Silver Birch or not?

| Can someone tell me how to tell if I have a silver birch? Are there any experts out there? I took a seedling to a few nurseries and they couldn't tell. I since took a punt and planted the tree but am now worried, 24 months later, that it might be some HUGE impostor as it is growing so quickly. The leaf and trunk look the same as a silver birch... I have two others to compare with.. but it doesn't have catkins. This could be because it is still so young. If it ISN'T a silver birch, what could it be, worst case scenario, because it is rather close to our house which is on a slab. When the seedling was small, the leaves were a little furry but still the shape of the silver birch.

| Wanting to identify unknown seedlings that popped up in my garden, I scanned the leaves and posted the image - got identification that day. Do you (or a friend) have a scanner? Before the drought I had three young birches (don't have any now ... sigh) - two had catkins, the other didn't. Different gender perhaps. |
