How do i plant a jacaranda mimosifolia so that it doesnt ruin my sidewalk and the street? Is there a specific depth or any ways to achieve this?

RE: How to correctly plant a jacaranda

Hi, you've posted in the Australian Tree Forum but it seems you are in USA? Not that it matters, there are no borders in GW its just that my advice will be from an Australian aspect and I will say...
I'm sorry, but there is no way of guaranteeing that, at all. The growth of trees depends on so many factors - genetics, human intervention (eg grafting), soil, water, climate.
If you know the tree, you know that potentially it is a very big and spreading tree, and that equates to a very big root system to anchor it, and eventually a girth of feet ) There is a lot of surface rooting with Jacaranda, as they age they can form big buttress root systems. They do not take at all well, to pruning.
While they are glorious in flower and some places in Australia go out of their way to preserve mature trees in street-scaping, I wouldn't go plonking one in your sidewalk without a lot of thought and research.
Otherwise you (or some poor person who buys the property later) may inherit a big problem and a potential damage liability.
You have to consider the problem from the point of a large tree - possible interference with water or sewerage pipes, roots to trip pedestrians, breakage of kerbs, damage to roads, damage to underground services like power and gas... mess from falling flowers and leaves, potential of falling branches injuring someone.
Seed grown trees take years to flower, grafted ones also a few years.
Check with your local authority as a first step as many councils have restrictions on footpath plantings anyway. And they may have suggestions for other more suitable street plants for you.
