Pink Cassia javanica in Brisbane?

Other than the Bris Botanic Gardens, Mt Cootha, are there any large 15m + Pink Cassias (Cassia javanica) growing in Brisbane, Qld and hopefully on the south side of the river. I want to grow one for shade in the red soils of Redlands in school grounds. Any problems, especially with winter cold but no frost. Name the street and I may inspect first.

Grows fine in NE NSW, just avoid frost when less than 1m tall, if it gets a light frost it would prob, grow back. One of the very few exotics that Ive considered planting. Actually I bought one, but I let it die in the pot! From Kris |

There is a very large, well shaped specimen in a park just south of the river at Graceville. As you drive along Oxley Road heading towards Indooroopilly, the park is on your right just before the road goes under the Indooroopilly bridge. I admired it for many years, especially when in flower, before planting my own which is now about 5m tall and a very nice tree. However, beware, especially in school grounds. Mine has very sharp spikes on the trunk. Unless you have a guard around the tree, it could do some serious damage. Hazel.

Thanks Hazel - especially about the spikes. I shall inspect.

I used to live opposite that park. The tree is magnificent. I would like to get a tree for my new garden if anyone has knowledge of where one can be found.
