Pulling out saplings

Posted by mrsxtro QLD, Australia (My Page) on

Hello all.
I have a bunch of approx. 20-30 self seeded gum tree saplings that I wish to remove. They are between 1-3 metres tall, with a trunk diameter of about 5-10cm maximum. Wondering what would be the best way to get them out of the ground? I want them completely removed, not just chopped down. I don't have a tractor or anything as yet so will have to get someone in to do the job unless there is some simple way of getting them out.
Thanks in advance for any ideas, suggestions.

Are you living in a remote area? If not, you might be able to get someone to pull them out free for you:
(1) Offer them for sale on ebay, on the condition that the buyer has to dig them out and take them away. (You could start with a really low price, eg 99c, as your aim here is to entice someone to do the job for you rather than make a profit.)
(2) Offer them free (to anyone willing to dig them up and take them away) on Freecycle. You can find a list of all Freecycle groups on the link below and check if there's any in your area (there's one in Brisbane but guess you don't live there).

Here is a link that might be useful: All Freecycle groups

Hi Cestrum

Thank you so much for the freecycle link. I have posted a message offering a freezer. Jan

Yes, freecycle is very useful for things that are no longer needed but would be a shame to throw out.
