Storm Warning for Melbourne

Hi All,
Just been advised that we are in the eye of a storm, this Thursday morning, and the winds and rain etc that we experienced last night could be nothing compared to what's coming. So batten down the hatches! Stake anything likely to fall over that hasn't already.

TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
VICTORIAN SEVERE WEATHER WARNING
for Widespread Damaging Winds and Very Heavy Rainfall
For people in the Western, North Central, Wimmera, Northern Country, Northeast
and Alpine districts.
Issued at 9:55 am EDT on Thursday 3 February 2005

A deep low pressure system currently just east of Melbourne is expected be very
slow moving.

South to southwesterly winds are expected to average 60 to 70 km/hr in most
areas but will locally average 70 to 80 km/hr at times with gusts to 100 km/hr.
The strongest winds are expected in the Western, Wimmera and Alpine districts.

Very heavy rainfall is likely over the next few hours which will result in flash
flooding. The heaviest rainfall is expected over the Western, Northern Country
and Northeast districts.

The warning has been cancelled for the Central and Mallee districts.

(Apparently Melbourne Metro's weather is expected to be pretty mild)

RE: Storm Warning for Melbourne

Sheesh, we saw some footage tonight, unbelievable. Hope everyone down there is safe but it looks like widespread damage. Then the hail in Sydney, the storms here, snow in the ranges, the dust storms north of us, WA's heat wave.... what a country :-(
