Walnut tree and ?rust

| I have small walnut tree given to me by a neighbour. It has been in the ground now for about two years and is about 90cm high. Apart from being nibbled by lambs and possums it has been in good health. Recently the leaves have developed small brown spots which tend to grow and merge. It looks very much like the rust on the blackberry leaves on the thickets near the house. Any ideas what the problem might be? Do I treat it? And if so with what? Is it likely to be coming from the blackberries? Will I have to put the tree out of its misery? |

| I have an orange rust on the leaves of an avenus of poplars. Apart from being a bit unsightly, is does not seem to be doing much to the trees, so I just leave it alone. I get the same rust on my roses, don't spray them, and they grow very well. I would leave the tree and see what it does - it may well be able to cope with a bit of rust, so killing it might be a bit premature. Perhaps next spring spray it with a rose fungicide? Robyn |
