Chinese Pistachio (Pistacia chinensis) is an attractive, deciduous tree, reasonably fast growing. Has brilliant autumn colouring, even in warmer areas.

You'll find a piccy on this website.

Here is a link that might be useful: http://www.fateucalypts.com.au/SmallTreeCatalogue.htm

I have one growing - it is only 2 years old, but doing very nicely. Needs a bit of water in the heat. I thought is grew much bigger than 8 metres. It might depend on soil and climate. Fine, ferny foliage in summer, lovely golden/red leaves in autumn. No nuts...

Robyn, the Chinese Pistachio is dioecious (trees are male or female) and the 'nuts' only form on the female tree - and only if there is a male in the vicinity.

Both forms flower in early spring before the leaves - the males in a tight cluster, whereas the females are looser.

I guess you know that this isn't the tree which produces the edible pistachio (that one is p. vera).

The flemings site (flemings.com.au) also has good info and a photograph.
