Crepe Myrtle, why won't it flower?

I have a fully grown crepe myrtle that gets about 5 hours sun. It looks healthy enough although it doesn't have attention lavished upon it. I recall my mother pruning hers after flowering - is this essential to make it flower? The pruned shape always looks pretty frightful for months but it would be worth it if flowers followed next season.

5 Hours sun may not be enough for a Crepe Myrtle to flower. Has it flowered before? It could also flower a little later. My in-laws flowers about a month after everybody elses for some reason. I came across one yesterday at a job that isnt flowering either. I'll blame the drought! I wouldnt prune it, it would spoil it if it is mature. Some people prune them back to the same point each year(called knuckling), but I prefer the natural round shape. It wont make any difference to the flowering. You could throw a handfull of Dynamic Lifter around the base of it next spring to help it along, but if its mature, it wouldnt really need it. |

They seem to have a mind of their own. My parents have some that didn't flower last year but are nice this year. They are kindof crowded in with other trees so I'm not sure how much sun they get - doubt that it would be five hours. Don't need to trim them - apparently trimming causes them to sucker more. They're lovely here at the moment.

I suspect that Agonis does take a while to flower as it usually grown from seed . They are very rarely grown from cuttings. Remember in the wild we are talking about a substantial tree - 15m x 10m. The variegated forms( which are very slow growing) are exclusively grafted.
My mistake!!!!

Oops - i thought that you were talking about the aussie plant Agonis flexuosa (Willow myrtle) My mistake. It's Lagerstroemia you're referring to!!
