Need advice on major fig tree trunk wound

Dialectic

Hello

I have a fully mature fig tree. My four year old has managed to crack off a major branch leaving exposed wood 50cm long, extending around one third of the trunk circumference - it's a very fresh wound, only happened yesterday. I spoke to a young girl at a nursery, who sold me some 'Grafting Mastic' to seal the wound, but provided very limited instructions on use. I googled for some advice, and found most articles do not recommend sealing tree wounds, but these seem to be mostly in the context of small pruning wounds. I really don't want to lose this tree and am worried about rot/disease - would really appreciate advice on whether I should seal or not?
