how long do the flowers usually last on the bush before they start to brown ? (I don't mean how long before it stops putting out new flowers).
Mine seems to brown very quickly. It also droops and dies back too much.

hi, i have 4 buddlea"s all growing great guns. i find the flowers on mine tend to last about 5-6 days or so depending on the weather before they start to brown off then i trim them off and they shoot up new ones, mine are growing in very exposed positions and cop the wind and hot sun and just keep flowering if they get straggly (which they do i just give them a prune and off they go again

hope this helps

Janine,
I have a white one and a very dark purple one. The dark purple flowers last only about 5 days or so before going brown but the white flowers last much longer. I can't offer any reason why.

The purple one always flowers first and already has a mass on the bush (some already brown) but the white one has got its first flower this week with more to come.

thanks nettlerose and beverley. 5 days is about the same as for my flowers.

It sounds like you need to put the sprinkler on for about half an hour. That is what we do when we see them start to droop. Overall, they just need more water or mulch.

if you have these plants please discard of the prunings in an environmentally friendly manner as people that have been dumping them over embankments and on road sides have began to create a rather rampacious weed people, especially in the wetter coastal belt around NE NSW and SE QLD.
