Dorothy Perkins Rose

Does anyone know where I can buy a Dorothy Perkins Rose, preferably in Sydney.

A friend had one and she had to leave it behind when she moved. It was of great sentimental value and she misses it a lot.

I hoped to get her another for Xmas.

Any suggestions

thanks

Mike

I don't know where you can buy one but you are welcome to take cuttings from mine if you want to go that slower route. It should strike readily at almost any time and particularly at this time of year because it is very vigorous. Mine is growing in Sydney's inner west. Email me via my member page if you are interested.

It grows along the roadside in the village in Kangaroo Valley - festoons the fronts of a number of properties and I am sure was never intended in most of the roadside areas that it is in now - it is certainly vigorous and colorful.

Hi Meryl,

thank you for the offer of cuttings, that is so thoughtful of you.

I have access to my friends old Dorothy Perkins Rose, in fact the people said I can have it if I can dig it up.

It is about 5-6ft round and I will probabaly kill it doing that.

I can take cuttings from the old plant but I dont know how to grow them.

Would you mind letting me know what to do to grow the cuttings.

thanks again

Mike

Mike, scroll downs the list of discussions until you get to one called "cuttings" which was first posted october 31. That should get you started.

There were several Dorothy Perkins roses growing around the districts of Maleny and Conondale. They were located in the middle of cow paddocks and covered areas up to 100 feet wide.Pretty in Spring but I feel sorry for the one charged with their removal.

Come to think of it, Mike, if you access to the DP which used to belong to your friend, have a poke around at ground level around the margins of the plant and see what you can find. This rose tends to send down roots everywhere it touches the ground and it is very robust, so finding a rooted piece shouldn't be too difficult. Just dig it up with a bit of soil (but even if you just drag it out it should still live) and cut off the attached stem(s) about 20 cms long with a few leaves attached. Pot it up and Bob's your uncle.
