Mme Isaac Periere

I am mystified! This rose last year in the same spot grew a lot and did not give me one bloom I couldn't understand it as it was in great shape otherwise. It had a prominent corner in my cottage garden with lots of Sun so if she didn't get her act into gear this Spring/Summer she was going to get the chop!!!!!

Well since September she is covered in blooms - you can hardly see the bush - so did she get the vibe that she was going to rose heaven? I have had bushes that have improved their size of blooms and the amount of blooms as they have got older but not from no blooms in 2003-2005 and then bang this month covered in blooms I am lost??? Any ideas of why this has happened? I even bought another Mme Isaac Periere and planted it near as I thought the first bush might be a dud.

I think I should put the axe beside a couple of other bushes just to test the theory : )

Cheers,

Brissy

Glad to hear MIP came good for you, Brissy, as she is such a beautiful rose. I planted one each side of an arch 4 or 5 years ago. I only had a couple of flowers the first year but she just keeps getting better each year. Mine are looking the best ever at the moment. Enjoy her.

Hazel.

Brissy,
The same story here...I bought one last year and she grew okay but no blooms, I cut all my roses to about knee high in the winter and she came up beautifully and gave me aabout 10 blooms right away....can't quite understand but it is a beautiful plant and won't be getting the chop.
Cheers,
Hunty

Maybe she is responsive to threats. Mine did nothing after planting out from the pot last year so this year I pruned her right down, dug her up to check her roots all ok and put her back in as a bare root. Now she is doing well and flowering beautifully.
cheers

I think MIP likes to get herself nicely established before she will think about flowering. Mine took awhile before she did much more than grow. She was next to a climbing frame I had for Gloire de Dijon. GdD decided to turn up its toes and MIP decided she would like the climbing frame for her own use, so I've let her. She had gone over the top of the frame and is cascading down the side with flowers all along her canes, but it took her about 3 years to get this good.

Mine is in her 2nd year with not a flower last yr but heaps of black spot. Let's hope this year will be better tho I suspect she's not getting enough sun & may have to move her.

Sorry girls. Bourbons being derived from the Damasks carry enormous potential for Blackspot, especially the "softer" Bourbons, Malmaison, La Reine Victoria and Mme Pierre Oger, and Mme Isaac. Triforine every month regularly for control. It's so good and effective to be regular isn't it?

Well mystery solved at my place. My glorious mislabel is, I am confident, MIP. Same story here, she just grew away happily last year. This years flowers starting and they're indistinguishable from the mislabel bush. Big smiles now sure I've a spare in the garden, as I'll lose the mislabel when demo eventually occurs.
