Just wondering what to use for aphids on my icebergs? Have used soapy water, makes not alot of difference. Maybe not soapy enough.

DOnt want to use chemicals but if i have to i will. Also have little black insects on them, like really small ants and light brown bugs that look like mites.

What would b best for all the above critters ?

Thanks.

Try hosing them off with a hard jet of water or squashing them.

But if you really have to use something Confidor would be the best..Cheers..MM.

If you have ladybirds and their young(they look like mini black crocodiles with an orange flash on their backs),try to stick with the hosing and squashing.

Pyrethrum is a natural insect killer. Keep off rose petals though.

wasting your time with soapy water!...dysiston (david grey's sellit) is a granular systemic and will keepyour roses clean for 6-10 months....it's a stronger chem but it works and you only apply it once versus multiple contact sprays...your best weapon is your own tolerance.....if they aren't toooooooo bad and they were only ruining the odd bloom or two or three....does it really matter???

Lozza, Why keep off the rose petals? Does this mean buds as well?
What difference does "natural" mean? Does it still kill non descriminately?
I never use anything, but then I have quite few roses, so usually just hand squish.

Go Confidor. You will need to spray each time an outbreak occurs but but material safety data sheets suggest practically non-toxic.Our experience is 100% kill every time.Disyston and confidor also control thrips (or at least non-resistant ones).Talking of ladybirds we had some black aphids on our roses ealier in Spring which we don't normally have problems with. They had plainly jumped off some nearby weeds. As their numbers weren't escalating too badly I held off spraying. After a short period the ladybirds arrived and thoroughly cleaned them up, right to the last one. We're not normally this lucky though.

Take 1 strand of Kouta hair, 1 brain cell of a Fev, mix both together and what do you have? Bugger all actually.

Ooops sorry, better be serious. Just add 2 slurps of gnat urine, mix it all with 1000 litres of puppy milk and just throw it at the roses.
