| I tried to make a comeback to this forum, I have wonderful rose info to share but I just can't stand the adds. I think I'll quit this forum yet again and does anybody know of a better one without all the add crap ? I don't want to hear about the need for sponsors etc, it's just some goon(s) sitting on his date making money from freedom loving rose enthusiasts like us.

You need MOZILLA-you can block all the ads.:)

Hi
I have Mozilla as well and only get 1 ad.
You may need to update your software/firewalls/antispam stuff.
It would be interesting to hear what you have to share.

| I have never seen an add. Mybe thats because my husband who controls our server hates adds to. Computer genious husband's are quite handy. |

If you have rose info to share, then share.
Stop complaining about ads. If you feel you cant make any useful contributions because of a few ads, dont bother. |

I find the Garden Web is very slow with loading & the process we go through to post a follow up is a pain but I have solved the problem I have a card game going now & I bring it up & play it till I see the post ready to look at worth a try plus ignore the adds

| This forum is now nothing but a burden on anyone using dialup. Hardly worth the waiting around for all the crap to load. A big RASPBERRY to the new owners. |

| I have a couple of windows opened and flit between the two while I wait. The ads sure slow it down heaps and curbs the desire to look at more than a couple of messages near the top of the list. Von. |

I know the has undergone some changes with the top banner and so on .

My "Roses in Oz" is running at fossilised tortoise speed too.Have removed spyware/adware but made no difference.

I'm not sure I understand all the less than pleasant comments on this thread. I think waldon's comment was perfectly fair. He/she is probably not reading this thread anyway.
There was a change in ownership about a year ago Roses in Oz, and things have gone down hill since then. Even the people that paid up membership seem to complain about it. It is a pity because many of us are regulars and enjoy the discussions. A lot will eventually give up altogether, and sadly it is often those who are best able to give good advice to more inexperienced gardeners. |

I am aware of a couple of other forums, unrelated to this one, where people left in droves because of too many ads and slow speed.It must be terrible if you are on dialup.

| I agree, this place used to be such a pleasure - I'd flit in and out all the time - and that was when we had dial-up. Nowadays it's hard work and we've got satellite! I don't visit as often as I used to. |

Our roses in oz has continued to slow down every day .I visited my mother today who's just bought a computer and has ADSL broadband.It was marginally faster but it was at a peak usage time.

Hi All,
If you use Norton Internet Security and Adaware and update and scan daily, you can get most of your speed back. The more you use the web the more time the others have to get in on your act.So if you just do a few at a time or go on at off peak time, you will get a quicker service, just great for us shift workers.The site sponsers have the use of your time as well if they didn't the internet would not work, some one has to pay for the use of the net. If you have free internet, good luck, but there is no such thing as a free lunch. If you find one please let us all know.

I now only go on every other day as it is too time consuming & I find it so dissapointing as it used to be so great I am on dial up but the speed I have is slow but it always was & I didn't have the problems that we all seem to cop now

I have dial up my son put Outpost firewall on, and apart from having to log in every time I look in there are no adds or pop ups.

I do know of another forum(NOT DAO'S!)-it has been a bit weak on attendance lately but it could be resurrected.

I have mozilla and all the Norton software loaded here and am on broadband. We have an ad block and all the add ons.
As a result no ads and normal speed.
I havent had a slow speed at all.
The trouble is you need to update your software on a regular basis and we have good tech who comes and regularly checks everything and puts in whats required.
this is, of course, expensive.
We run 4 networked PCs here at home and about 8 at work and our tech looks after them all.
We are lucky in that regard.
