Looking so forward to seeing my climbing Westerland come into bloom, yesterday it finally happened such a bright vibrant colour a real strong orange then this morning it has changed so completely I took the first Photo around 7:30am and the second one just before 7:am so the light would have been about the same
First Day Westerland
Second Day Westerland.
Wondering what tomorrow will bring, does this rose fade so quickly or is this another one that is going to look washed out as the sun gets stronger, which happened to so many of my roses last year, they are both on a Arch and get a little shade in the late afternoon, I am happy with its growth but not its colour a pretty rose all the same..Cheers..MM. |

I quite like the subtlety of the faded bloom, I can imagine the overall effect of the brilliant new blooms and subtler older blooms would be nice. ...but has it got worse? You certainly have to keep an eye out for those roses that can't cope with strong sunlight. I think Elizabeth of Glamis might be another. There's so many! |

It may be beautiful when covered in blooms all of varying stages of colour, my double delight does this in the summer as it is up against a west facing wall, but once the Autumn comes the problem is gone & so maybe yours might be similar still a beautiful rose there MM. Jan. |

| Snodge would you believe that today it is even paler with a yellow centre, it is a huge rose and yes Jan I could imagine the Arch with all different colours on it against the cream house, but I wanted a real dark coppery orange, still pretty but not the colour I wanted....Cheers..MM.

| Hi Mistymorn, You are so lucky to have blooms on yours, mine still look like bareroots with some leaf growth. I picked this climber after someone raved about it on this forum when they saw it in Tassie at the State rose garden so maybe when it is in full swing on a larger scale it will be more to your taste. I have put Pat Austin below it and hopefully it will blend in very well. Thanks for the photos! Cheers, Brissy |

| Thanks Dee yes it is georgous, but its slowly turning into another pink rose and I dont want that, my Lavender Dream is turning pink thats a real disapointment too, I have enough pinks as it is without the other colours turning into it as well, even if it is pretty. Hi Brissy I think my Mail Order Roses were planted well before yours 2nd July actually and now have heaps of buds, with only two flowering from my old ones, but I moved a few out of the full sun and they are way behind the bare-rooted ones, hoping to have better luck with them this year. Your Pat Austin is another Orange I had my eye on, do let us know how that one performs..Cheers..MM. |
