Hi everyone
I am new to the idea if showing roses at rose shows. I go to the one at Mt Waverley, Melbourne.
Are there rules and guidelines and could I show something like this?

Does anyone here enter their roses in a show? I am thinking about it for this year.Maybe start in local shows first?
Any tips and info would be appreciated.:))
Thanks in advance
Michelle

I'm pretty sure there is no schedule item for such an arrangement at a Show conducted by Rose Society of Victoria. It is suitable for a bunch or a vase of flowers where roses predominate. There would be schedule items in suburban horticultural shows.

The rose society won't make schedule irems for you. You need to make exhibits to suit their schedule items. Ring 9560 3152 and ask Max Marriner to send you an old schedule. He will put you on the right track. If you are keen on showing your roses well, you might entertain the idea of joining RSV. Ring Janice Chapman on 9589 1517. Check the link.

Here is a link that might be useful: RSV

Hello Michelle, I showed a rose for the first time this year, quite by accident I may add.
At the Shows round here it is not quite as formal as the larger Rose society shows but we do have to make sure there are no bugs on or in them and that they have a stem long enough to go into a jar of water to keep for a few days.
most of the shows have individual flowers, a bowl of roses and then there are the general flower sections which have arrangements for dressing table, dinner table and such which can include roses and other flowers.
As Lozza says it would be wise to check with your Society down there.
Have a great time at the show, it is wonderful to have people enter their displays.

Michelle - why don't you start off by exhibiting at local garden club shows. We have a show here every year in Creswick, and it allows people to exhibit a vase of mixed flowers, or mixed roses. The cmopetition is not too high a standard, so it is a good opportunity to learn and possibly win a few ribbons.
Garden Magazines often have a section advertising shows. So do community newletters. Sometimes schools and service groups put on shows as fund raisers.
Good luck, but most of all have fun!
Cheers, Jan

Hello Michelle,

Showing is fun. A vase of flowers like that may fit into the display section of the Rose Society Victoria's Rose shows. The schedule for the spring show is just about to be sent out. You do not have to be a member of the Society to show your roses at the shows but it is much easier if you are I think. One of the monthly meetings per year is dedicated to showing people how to Stage their roses for showing, but I think that is usually before the Autumn show in March. Max Marriner is the show manager and will steer you in the right direction. Joyce Chapman ( not Janice) is the current acting Sceretary for the Society and she is also very helpful to novices at shows. See you in November Laurie.

Thankyou everyone for your helpful hints and encouragement
I would like to start at local shows first to get the hang of it .
I am a member of the RSV here in Vic so I will get the info out that I received from them (I had forgotten I had the info!)
I will have a look at the local paper etc and perhaps make a small start this year!
Thanks again everyone
cheers
Michelle
