Advice for visiting gardens in Tassie

Posted by femmeradsy Newcastle, NSW (My Page) on

Hubbie and I are heading to Tasmania in the first 2 weeks of December, and we've made a deal: he gets to play some golf, and I get to visit some beautiful gardens. Terrific! Now the hard part: choosing which ones.

I already have my copy of the Open Garden Scheme book, and the booklet "Blooming Tasmania", but I'd love some specific suggestions from either locals or anyone who has visited the region. What's good? What's not?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

PS Please forgive duplication - I've posted a similar question on the general discussion page - but I just had to know what the rosarians think. The rose is the queen of all flowers, after all!

RE: Advice for visiting gardens in Tassie

I cant believe it!
I am heading to Tassie for 2 nights in late November and will stay in Hobart.
I plan to see:

Botanical Gardens in Hobart
The Scented Rose in the Huon Valley
Prospect Villa and Garden in Hamilton
The Prospect Villa & Garden is featured on the cover of "CountryStyle" this month with a terrific article and glorious pictures inside.

I will see if I can see some more if I have time.
The Scented Rose is being taken over by new people in December so I want to go while I know it will still be open.It will not be open after the end of Nov.
I cant wait. I have the flights booked ,now I'm going to find a beautiful B&B in Hobart . We have stayed in a few so that wont be a problem.
I also have the Blooming Tasmania book-its very helpful.
I am very excited at this little trip.
