Question re ground cover roses
| | |
Posted by rosesforme Melb (My Page) on Thu, Sep 29, 05 at 4:15
Hi all
I have got a couple of "flower carpet " groundcover roses growing well.
However-they are growing wide and up.
To keep them in a spreading habit, do I cut off the taller skyward reaching canes?
Would this encourage sideways growth instead of vertical.
Some vertical is good--but I need them for groundcover..that was the idea of planting them.
Thanks in anticipation....
Cheers

RE: Question re ground cover roses

| Michelle I dont know if I can answer this right, but looking at my Carpet Roses . Pink Bassino, Red Bassino, Sea Foam, and My Rosy Carpet they are a mass of flowers and I honestly think that they will only spread to the width they are suppposed to and thats it, but I find that Lavender Dream that came with a ground cover label on it is shooting up so much higher and wider than those four, but it is a bigger size one. It the plant is only suppose to grow say 80 cms High X 1.5cm Wide I dont think it will grow much wider, by cutting off those high canes skyward canes I dont know if it will make them grow any wider either but I honestly dont think it will . I am sure one of the experts will be along soon to let you know..Cheers..MM. |

Thankyou MM for your reply. I ended ringing up the nursery and while he said much of what you have here he suggested to cut them down and see what happens!:)) So its done. Thanks again Michelle |
