I'm not a gardener & need some help

| We live in a rental house that has a small garden planted with roses. Do roses come in a miniature version, as the flowers are small and the plants themselves would only be about 30cm tall (I don't know how old they are). A month or so ago I trimmed them back and with spring here, they are looking quite good. However, while having a good look at them today I saw what I thought at first was tiny new growth just coming through and then noticed that this "growth" had legs!!! Tiny, green bugs up the stems. Are roses prone to get a certain type of bug and what can I do about them. As I said, I am not a gardener and your help and advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Cheryl.

| Hi Cheryl They're aphids. You can spray them with water and they fall off, or you can squash them with your fingers (messy but satisfying) or you can spray with Confidor, Rose Guard etc. Thet don'y do huge damage, but I hate the thought of parasites on my roses. Sounds as though you do have miniature roses. Sue |

| Thanks, Sue, for your help. I'll try the water thing first - that would be the simplest - and if that doesn't work, I get a spray. Glad to find out what these bugs are and that they don't do a lot of damage, but like you, I hate to think of them on the plants. The roses are looking quite good at the moment and I'd like to keep it that way, so will try your suggestions. Many thanks. Cheryl. |
