| No, no I'm not, Karima, growing those you mention, but I've read your message and, to be honest with you, I don't garden in the best rose growing climes. Nevertheless, I am a lover of roses (and also clematis) and I've a few thriving (roses and clematis). Of the old (rose) varieties I'm having some success with the Rugosas: Frau Dagmar Halstrup; Rosa Rugosa Scabosa (I think subperba), though both struggle a bit in this almost sub-tropical climate. I love roses, something about them: their thorns; their exquisite flowers. Pain, blood and beauty comes from rose culture and that is life; I feel connected in that and so feel I simply can't resist them. |

| No, I love to try growing some old garden roses one day. But I've read from the other section of this rose forum that the bourbons are very suscepitable to diseases and can become lanky, like Louise Odier. |

thanks funnelweb and jumbojimmy for the comments. I started off rose gardening with Hybrid teas and floribundas. Then fell in love with the Austins( i have about twelve of them). And my latest addiction is old roses, I have put four bourbons and i damask so far and i am completely out of space for any more. I've heard that bourbons are suseptible for blackspots, since i planted them in winter, i sprayed them with fungicice twice and stopped when the weather started to warm up. So far they look glorious, and i even had a few blooms on Louise odier and Mme pierre oger and i absolutely love the form of the flowers. Karima |

I have Reine Victoria in my Melbourne garden. She's not the most elegant of bushes, tends to be a bit angular and lanky, but the blooms are lovely. They are so cupped and such a clear deep pink. Flowers well into winter too. I've just planted M Pierre. I hope she fares as well. Sue |

| thank you funnelweb, jumbo jimmy, mistymorn and sue. My bourbons look alright so far, no black spots and i have planted them in sunny locations. All of my bourbons have buds on them, but taking forever to open thanks to the thrips. Sue i would love to see your bush photo of the bourbons. And mistymorn, my first few flowers of the bourbons didn't look all that good due to thrip damage, as soon as i see some nice blooms i will post them. Karima |

| My problem with this site was always the ponderous Photo Bucket system. Has it changed? Sue |
