I read that the Flemington Racecourse roses are fed with Dolomite and then with Sudden Impact. Has anyone heard of Sudden Impact and where can you buy it. Also where can Dolomite be bought? Thank you.

RE: Sudden Impact

You can get both at Bunnings. I've never tried Dolomite but I did try Sudden Impact for Roses last spring. It was very expensive and did have a sudden impact on my roses but the new growth was weak and disease prone. My have just been coincidence but I won't use it again. I think Dolomite alters the ph of the soil so I wouldn't use it without a soil test first.

RE: Sudden Impact

A lot of people here in the mountains use Sudden Impact. It seems to work very well in our sandy soil, but might be different in other types. The more you buy the cheaper it gets. Bunnings sell 10kg buckets for about $40, which is enough to do 100 roses once, or about 35 roses 3 times through the season. I think you can buy it in larger quantities which would be cheaper still. It is not for newly planted or bare root roses, so don't waste your money if you have new ones.
Not only was I happy with the strong growth and more flowers I got after using it for the first time last year, I found it really did help with disease resistance.

RE: Sudden Impact

Apparently it was developed as a joint thing between the SA Rose Society and the SA Botanic Gardens, who have a rose trial garden. Once they got the mix they wanted, it went on the market and is now endorsed by the NSW Rose Society and the Victorian Rose Society as well.

It took me a while to find it. It works out to be ridiculously expensive in the 1.5kg size, but much better value in the 10kg bucket. I've only just started using it, so let's see what happens now!

They have a website - if you still haven't found any near you, you could try emailing them directly to find out.

RE: Sudden Impact

Hi, I have used Sudden Impact since the trials began.
I found that the rose plants reacted very well and flower production increased. Also I liked it even better when they released it to the various rose societies who give you a very big discount on it when you join the rose society a 40kg bag becomes very cheap.

RE: Sudden Impact

I am a member of the SA Rose Society and was involved with Neutrog Australia in the development of Sudden Impact for Roses. It was developed over a number of years & is now used by most of the major rose gardens throughout Australia including Flemington Racecourse Rose Garden, Vic State Rose Garden at Werribee & Morwell Rose Garden along with being recommended & endorsed by the Rose Societies in SA, Vic, NSW & Queensland. Members of these Rose Societies have access to larger bag sizes of Sudden Impact at significantly reduced prices direct from the manufacturer.

It is also excellent on all other flowering plants. I suggest you either join your local state rose society (I have attached the link to the Vic Rose Society) or visit the Sudden Impact site listed above where stockists of the product are listed.
