First rose ever - Christian Dior

| I have done it. I have bought my first rose ever and it is a GORGEOUS hybrid tea named Christian Dior, with high-pointed red blooms. Sigh.
I was walking around Bunnings at Cannon Hill looking at all the bagged roses and was about to leave when I saw the potted roses, so I had a squiz. There was Christian Dior, Black Beauty, Black Velvet, Lilli Marlene, La Sevilland (all reds) and many others. This is when the 'grip' came on. I wasn't walking away from there without a red rose, even if I had no-where to put it in the garden! I think I had about five pots lined up of different varieties, checking each one carefully for the healthiest and the most aesthetically pleasing bush when not in bloom. It came down to Black Beauty and Christian Dior, and finally CD won and I took him home.
I did see a Just Joey there, but it was in a right state: covered top to toe in black spot and passing it on to others surrounding it.
So that's my story of my first rose purchase, I wonder if other people have stories of the first rose they ever purchased?

Corey, Bonica caught me and I fell in love then and there and now I have nine roses all in a row and they are flowering and looking great. I have such pride when I walk in with another rose for the vase. My biggest thrill was when I took the first bloom on the Peace rose up to Mum in the nursing home and she recognised it, she just said " Ahhh Peace " and smiled. She had always had one growing at every house we lived in and that is why I bought Peace. Marion |

| How wonderful only trouble is its a hard choice sometimes as to which one My first roses were a Climber Princess Elizabeth Pink, but this one caught my eye Dr Verhage Yellow, so did Blue Moon and Iceberg, later on I bought Julia's Rose as it was the first brown rose I had heard of, and imagine my surprise when I found out that the yellow and blue roses I had were the (parents is that the right name ) Today I walked around Big W looking at what was left of the bagged roses and came home with a punnet of Roma tomatoes and one of Multi coloured Salvia's a much better buy I think. Must say the potted ones look a lot better, So Good Luck Corey with this rose and the many more you will end up buying and may they flower forever .. Cheers..MM. |

| my first rose was a yellow banksia rose when I was a teenager. I didn't know not to prune it when real young and killed it. When we were buying our first house, we went out to swanes at Dural to check out the roses and decide some nice smelly ones. Then bought Mr Lincoln and Double delight and a climbing iceberg for my first garden. Made the same mistake with the Clbg iceberg too, killed that believe it or not! Sheer talent! I'll lose my Mr Lincoln when we demolish the house, but I'm pretty sure I'll be replacing it. It will get so many flowers over summer, I'm not prepared to set it back, anyway I've nowhere to move it to at the moment. |

| My hubby sent me a beautiful bunch of chocolate roses, I cannot remember their name but they are a greenhouse grown rose. I was passing the florist whom happened to be a rose nursery as well to thank her for the beautiful bunch and I fell in love with this potted rose "Silk Hat" and since then I have been hooked on growing them and my husband now says he doesn't have to buy me anymore roses : ) Silk Hat is still one of my favourite roses. Saintin, come along to the SE Qld catch up at New Farm Park on Sun 4th Sept. You will get to meet rosies whom have a couple of months of being hooked to some whom have years. You will find out the winning roses for our climate as well. Lots of laughs with people who really understand your love of roses. If you need a lift let us know - look at the post catch up for SE QLD rosies. Cheers, Brissy |

Hi I have a beautiful CD rose.It is one of my favorites. My first real roses were First Prize and Charles de Gaulle. I couldnt believe they could be so beautiful and I didnt muck it up and they grew so well. So.......the rose addiction took over and now I have 51 roses! I have slowed down and will not buy any this season--we have no room. I have grown to love the hobby and I hope you will too. I have found my interest in gardening has widened and varied and I am now planting different plants as well! cheers Michelle |
