Does anyone know of a rose with the name Alma in it. I have found a couple overseas but need to access one in Australia

Cheers,
Dee

This might be a start. This is an American web site, but it says the rose is bred here in Australia.

ALMA ROSE
Class: Cluster-flowered, Floribunda.
Breeding: Bred in Australia by Frank L. Riethmuller.
Bloom: Crimson, Dark red [ARS dr] blooms. Repeats its bloom again later in the season.

Here is a link that might be useful: Alma Rose

Thanks for that Deb. It is the same site that I had found. There was another German one. Unfortunately I can't seem to find them in Australia. My Mother-in-law was named Alma and I wanted to plant one in her memory. I have Googled myself silly, going round and round in circles it seems! I think I will just have to admit defeat and think of something else. Thanks for your help anyway.
Cheers,
Dee.

I'm sorry for your loss. I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago when we suddenly lost my young brother in law, at only 26 years of age too. He always loved wandering around my rose garden so I tried to find something in his memory. When I couldn't find anything suitable, Treloar put me in touch with a rose breeder in SA who will actually sell you the naming rights to a new rose. I think it was about $150? But not sure. I don't remember their name but Treloar could probably help again. Obviously this isn't a cheap option, though.

If you are stumped for a rose named "Alma", perhaps you could find one that has a name appropriate eg Lovely Lady, Joyfulness, Double Delight, Loving Memory (Red Cedar); or perhaps one in her favourite colour. You could always refer to it as "Alma's Rose", no matter what it's name actually is, just because you planted it for her.

Hi Dee,

I am sorry for your loss.

If you can't find the rose I 2nd the suggestion for using Red Cedar/Loving Memory as it truly is a magnificant rose to remember her by. It shouldn't be hard to find.

Regards,

Brissy

Thankyou so much everybody for your help and your good wishes. I agree, I need to start thinking 'outside the square'. I am sure I will find the perfect rose. I think I will let my husband (who is NOT known for his gardening skills), help me choose one, seeing that it is his Mother we are honouring.
Cheers,
Dee.

What a good idea! Then you can both really enjoy it. If you're anything like me, you'll enjoy the rose all the more knowing your hubby was involved.
