| Newbie here.
What is the difference between a Pillar rose and a climber. I like the look of the pictures i have seen of the triangular spiers and they would be more useful here than the trellis types. If my climbing Cecile Brunner turns out to be a climber and not the bush one could it grow on a Pillar ? Marion |

| I wouldn't. I have not grown the climber C.B in the ground myself (only potted) and therefore I could be wrong. However, where I have seen it grown by several other people it tended to be somewhat sparse ie.lots of trailing canes and not too many flowers.Maybe down south it stays somewhat shorter and twiggier (mmmm.... is that a word?). Anyway,I'd choose something with larger flowers and more compact habit. If I were needing to find a spot for Cl.C.B in the garden I'd look for maximum sunlight (any shading will reduce flower production) and a bit more room to spread than a pillar. Anyway, hope it all works out and happy rose growing. Mr Thrip |

| Hi Marion A Pillar rose is a type of climber that is limited in height (short & dense) and suited to grow on a post or small structure. I think they only grow to around 6-10 ft but I could be wrong where climbers can grow to twice and sometimes more than that. If you reckon that is confusing I bought three so called ramblers and when they arrived the tag reads they are ground covers so they must be tall spreading ground covers guess I will just have to wait and see. Cheers..MM. |

| Clb CB would swamp amd topple a pillar in next to no time. |

| The one in our garden at work had a trunk about 2" thick last year. There was so much new growth we cut out the trunk. The plant is very heavy and threatening to bring down the old trellis. Of course it might not be the true Clb CB :-) It does flower profusely. |

| Thanks everyone, I guess I will have to have a rethink. The CB is sending out long leads that are looking for something to climb on or be held up by. Looks like Henry will have some serious trellis building to do. I do like the look of the pillars I have seen so now the search will be on to find a suitable Rose for one. Marion |

| Marion, what about a shed or something? then you could let CB do her thing and not worry about the weight? |
