| I couldn't work out a way to get a wooden trellis home so I bought a roll of wire, galvanised screws and a wire cutter. I have 3 lines of wire along the fence and am slowly training the iceberg supremes by tying them to it with string. Er that was a production and a half to get up.
It took a while for me to figure out how a rose climbs but I'm basically going with the idea of : three strong canes to start off with: left, right and up. Is there anyone who has more of an idea than I do on this? I imagine you prune off the canes that diverge otherwise you'll have it running everywhere and over the fence. That might look charming but I think I want more control.
And, does anyone know of some slowgrowing climbers? I love the idea of an arch or a pillar but I don't want the hassle of pruning an overgrown climber. I already have to stand on a ladder to prune a hedge and I can't imagine doing that with thorny roses. Anyone try one of those patio climbers (short climbers)?
