| Hi
I have always had hybrid roses, but lats year I purchased about a dozen floribunda iceberg standards. They have grown unbelievably well considering the poor weather conditions over the last year( ie lack of rain). They have flowered religioulsy for the past 12 months, only slowing off in the last few weeks. I have to prune them soon, but noever prunned floribundas.
How do you prune floribundas? ANy different then hybrids?
Thanks.

Firstly ALL modern roses are hybrid. Only species roses are not. Hybrid Tea roses is most likely what you mean. Pruning roses that continually bloom is easy. Just continually deadhead them as if you are cutting the blooms for a vase. If you have not been doing this up to date, then just take out any dead or very old growth from the centre, cut out any bits that are looking weak. Trim the main growth back by about 1/3. Generally just an aesthetic tidy up is all that is needed. Once they start blooming again, deadhead them every 6 weeks or so to keep them neat all year round, and just take out the very old growth in July. |
