Pruning Standards

Is there any hard and fast rules about pruning standard roses?
I have some 3ft yellow 'fressia' roses that need pruning once the leaves have gone - and also, and more complicated, three double standard roses (in red).
Is there any foolsproof advice you can give to pruning these bushes? Or an internet site - I have tried searching but cant find much that is helpful (ie step by step with pictures would be nice!)
