White powder

Some of my roses have heavy white incrustations on the trunks.This is the first time i have seen this effect.Is this unusual on old roses? and what is the cure please.

Sounds like scale to me. Try Pestoil to kill it and an old toothbrush to loosen it.

I have the same thing happening to one of my roses and I'm an absolute novice at rose growing. I couldn't decide from descriptions whether it was scale or powdery mildew (it was mildew). Buggy roses is such a helpful website - Baldo even shows you some common rosebed weeds so that you don't accidently uproot the roses (nah I'm just kidding, I wouldn't do that, the roses are the ones with thorns)
