Can anybody through any light at all on what causes rust on roses.
The rose I speak of is Standard Seduction.
Is there a cure?
I would welcome any feed back at all. |

I haven't had much trouble with rust. Top of leaves have spots of yellow while underneath are the orange pustules typical of the condition known as rust. Triforine is supposed to control rust but I have no evidence to support this. Generally it is safe to say that it flourishes in shaded and overcrowded gardens with poor air circulation. That's the conditions that it struck in my garden, and mainly affected HP roses or those rugosas tainted with HP blood.

The only rose I see it on is Abraham Darby, and it doesn't seem to care too much about rust or any other fungus. Triforine and myclobutanil are cures but I wouldn't worry too much - it's not the big problem black spot is.

I have never seen rust on any single occasion on a rose here in Qld.I'm hoping that's because the climate here does not favour it's development. If this turns out to be true then Janian my not have much to worry about.Have any other Queenslanders made any observations of rust on roses in QLD?

In my experience, it's the weather. In the cooler months my roses get rust and in the warmer months, the rust disappears altogether, to be replaced by black spot.
