I would not be using them, do they have a use by date Actually I dont think UBD's were around in 1994 ??? but I could be wrong, Not worth loosing a precious rose though I just bought fresh for mine....MM |

| Thanks MM thats good enough advice for me,could not find a UBD have just used lime sulphur for the scale, have mancozeb for foliage. Is Maldison a good alround one with soapy water as well to cover blackspot scale aphids mealy and mite,Graeme.greencroc. |

| Sorry Graeme,I dont know if I am the right one to answer this question as last season most of my roses did not perform very well as I used mostly organic things, this year I am all prepared to spray them and the surounding areas with lime sulphur when I prune next week. Then I will follow that up with Triforine which I will spray every 7-10 days during the wetter months for blackspot, rust and powdery mildew. Thats all I will be using which is a lot more than I usually do. Maybe someone else can help more. Cheers ....MM |

| The Lebaycid would have gone off long ago - as would any organophosphate. The triforine might still be good though. Maldison (or Malathion) kills aphids and thrip and not much else these days. it's dirt cheap compared to pyrethrum but it won't kill spider mites unless you're lucky enough to have a population that didn't develop resistance to it. Careful how you handle it. The modern remedies are pest oil for scale and mites, triforine or myclobutanil for fungus diseases, and nearly anything you like for aphids. My vote is for Pest Oil as the closest thing to a universal solution for anything afllicting roses - it's just brilliant. |

| Graeme, greencroc, If you want a good oil try to find a product with the trade name which goes by, D-C-TRON, it was made by AMPOL and is sold under the CALTEX banner. Could be hard to find unless you are in the agri or hort areas of Qld. Your rural supplier can obtain but size might stop your purchase. It has many uses. IF you search PESTGENIE, in google or other, you will find many hints to chemical and organic type sprays for your plants. It is a good reference guide . Regards as always, David. |

Took the grandbaby to a kid's gardening day at Silkie Gardens last Wednesday. Graham Seargent told the kids that the very best thing they could plant with their roses was Alyssum - Sweet Alice, as all the good bugs just love it, and camp there while they eat all the thrip etc.. So - if it's good neough for their nursery - it's good enough for us! |

Thats a great tip, Thanks Frank I will be buying a packet of seeds and spreading them under all my standards then, its a nice cool looking flower as I used to have a border of them. Cheers ...MM. |

| I just finished taking all other plants out of my rose garden Fran, they say roses are loners, don,t like other plants, but a border of Alyssum would be helpful and ete-catching,thanks Fran, greencroc. |
