Advice on Angel Face

| Hello, I am a newbie to this forum, and would like advice on a couple of the roses I am (trying) to grow.
One of my most favourites is Angel Face. I got this plant from Berrima (i think) after a drive in the country that got sidetracked! I was upset that one or two days after bringing it home, it developed mildew (white powdery stuff)on most leaves. I have only ever had blackspot before on my roses. I wiped them with water with a splash of vinegar and it appeared to recover, however I am concerned that it will infect the other roses (Papa Meilland, cl.Mr Lincoln, cl. Pascali, Queen Elizabeth). It does not seem to have done well since I brought it home. Do you think my winter pruning/ clean up will solve the problem? I usually try to garden without spraying...but I will if I have to!
I would hate to loose it as it is sooo beautiful and smells wonderful (almost as good as Papa)!
I have loved reading all your comments and stories, it adds an extra dimension to gardening |

I also have Angel face as a new rose & Papa Meilland I agree with the wonderful perfumes, however I haven't had your problem but wonder if you have it a sunny spot as they love a lot of sun, I am sure someone will be of more help welcome to the rose forum. Jan. |

Dont worry Angel face is a smallish and a bit of a slower growing rose in cooler areas. How about 7 parts water to one part milk for mildew, it works a treat. Your other roses are in the tough rose catagory [most roses are] so just doing your usual winter pruning and spraying will be fine. spring will come and you will be rejoicing again, roses never let you down! I find Angel Face one of my favourite roses. Have you tried a really good feed such as Charlie Carp( I find this to give the rose a real pick up) or a fertilizer such as Terra Firma Organic Life-it has blood and bone ,fish meal etc. It is a sensation. Your Angel Face seems to me to need a pickup. Good Luck. Michelle |

| Thank you for your responses :) Lynne I will try the milk remedy when Angel pokes her face up again! I also have a sample satchet of Charlie Carp, Michelle, so I will try that on just Angel. I'm guessing early Spring is the best time to apply it for results. Can I ask a stupid question...what does "lol" mean? I frequently see it as a type of exclamation mark...?? |

Hi fee.bee-a suggestion: You could give them some Charlie Carp now. I have just pruned mine ,feed them and will give them Charlie Carp next week. You can use it almost anytime. BTW In the forum "language" you may also come across FWIW=for what its worth BTW = by the way IMHO = in my humble opinion Cheers Michelle |
