The ones in Ballarat K-mart looked very fresh and extremely healthy. I think perhaps they have a better turn over, or maybe their plants don't have so far to travel?
They were certainly new ones in today. I bought 1 more - a mauve one - something Dior? I forget the name.

I've just got back to Sydney from Alice Springs, where I found a mountain of Delbard roses in the local K-Mart. Compared to the other roses there, they looked pretty dead, but they looked slightly less dead than the stuff in Ashfield and they had the whole range. I thought about buying a Chartreuse de Parme and juggling with it on the plane home, but the thought of peak hour on the local train as well as dealing with the rest of my luggage, including a large pillow, put paid to that.

KMart is a major retailer of Delbard roses. Here in Melbourne I often pop into the garden centre in Chadstone.
It is huge ,has a huge turn over and the roses look pretty good.
Perhaps you were looking at old stock.
Sparaxis--is the mauve one Dioressence? This rose is on wishlist.I would be interested to hear how it goes.

Yep - think so - it is still in the car, and I'm not going out in the wet to check :-)
There were 3 there, and 2 were pruned badly. The branches are like tree trunks on mine. I hope it doesn't go over a metre :-) can you tell me how big the flower is? I am hoping for smallish.

Went to Big W Yesterday ( bought Honey Perfume (my choice)and Perfume perfection ,and to red older varities HT (husbands choice)) Looked good.
But in the corner a growing mountian of dead or almost dead bare roots.Didn't seem to be any particular varity or breeder.

I haven't bught too many from K,Mart but a few from Big W. All those big stores get them in too early, I reckon, early to mid April, if I remember right and if you're going to buy from them best to get them early, I bought 6 freesia from Big W mid April put them in a bucket of water with a dash of fish and kelp concentrate (forget the name of the stuff now) and left them 2 hours before planting. All are doing well and indeed flowering. I'm sure none of those stores rotate their stock so if you're buying in late June or July when roses should be planted i reckon much of their early stock would have dried out.

I agree with all of the comments but sadly perhaps because we are a country town even though we are quite large we do not always get what city stores get those roses had only been in our store for 3 days but were a bit too dry when they arrived, we are at the mercy of city head office who decide what & when we get anything & if you don't know ahead of time you can be fooled into buying very unsuitable plants for our climate which is cool to cold.

Both Ballarat and Bendigo must have got a new batch of Delbard roses as about a fortnight ago they were quite dry and I did write to say that their root systems sat very short in the sawdust - meaning that there was a gap forming between the roots and the wet part at the base of the bag - drying the top half out. I got two others this week as K-mart had 15% off after a soak in root promoting mix they are doing great in the garden.
