| Hi all I am off on a holiday to Europe for 6 weeks and I thought I better ask where are the best rose gardens that any of you have been to over there. Hubby and I are driving which will give us freedom to explore.I will put him in a local tavern and I will go off to the garden!!!
The last time I was there I didn't have this rose disorder :)
Cheers,
Brissy |

Hi. Lucky you, enjoy the trip. Take lots of photos, we will want to hear all about it on your return. A get together in Brisbane will have to happen when you get back. Regards, Shane |

Roserie D L'Hay is a must for a rose lover. I was there last June. It is in the suburbs of Paris. see these links http://www.goldcoastrose.org/shared/paris.htm http://www.kbthapa.com/pages/roserie.html http://www.rosegathering.com/lhay6.html for some info and pics. My husband headed for the biggest hardware store in Paris, under the Town Hall (Hotel De Ville) while I saw the roses. Truly worth the visit & the effort to get there. We were staying in Montparnasse & I traveled on the trains & bus. I speak only the rudimentaries of the French language but being friendly & polite in their own language will see most French people helping you out. I had my destination written on a piece of paper to show anyone who could help me & had no mishaps...just a little apprehension! Truly worth the visit especially in June. Cheers Deb |

Hi, Not a Rose Garden but a must see is Josephine Bonaparts house near La Defence in Paris, it is something out of the box, it is like she just left the room, not many people go there so it is great. Also the Bagatelle Gardens in Paris are great, and in the Loire Valley the Castle of the three ladies, cannot remeber its proper name but it is well worth the visit, and you must do Giverney, Monets Garden, Boy I wish I was going back. | Thanks Brissy for making me jealous especially when you mention the 'return trip'. I'd love to get over there just once! Enjoy yourself and we would love to see some decent pics. Can't recommend any sites as I haven't been there before however noticed this on the computer. France is Europe's up-and-coming country for gardens with some 800 to visit on Michael's list, and new ones are added weekly. Suggestions for the Northern part of France are the Bagatelle Gardens in Paris which contain good collections of irises and roses, the Floating Gardens of Amiens which can only be approached by water (there is a boat service), and the world renowned gardens of Claude Monet at Giverney. The French Riviera is studded with gardens created to accommodate its sub-tropical flora. Suggestions are the Rothschild's Villa Ephrussi, the gardens of La Mortolla which, in fact, in Italy, but only five minutes drive from the frontier at Menton. An American sculptor, Henry Clews, together with his wife Mary, created the gardens at the Château of La Napoule, and are well worth a visit. Also for botanical interest there is the 800 Corkscrew Beech Tree's of Verzy that would be well worth a look in the north east of France. Also Generosa range of roses (Guillot)come from over there somewhere in France and would be very interesting to see how they go over there and future types to be introduced here. So much to see I think you may be glad to get home by the end of it but I'm still jealous.... Garry |

| Another bit of info for you Brissy One of the most spectacular rose gardens anywhere is the one in Rome, which overlooks the ruins of the Emperors' Villas. Open from early May through June, it has countless varieties, plus a competition garden that opens on May 19. Admission is free and guided tours are available. Tel. 06-574-6810 for information. |
