I fell in Love today

We went to Bunnings to buy something, not a plant, and there it was, the lovliest little rose, I sighed and instead of walking away I bought my very first Rose.
I do hope it grows for me.

Marion it is the beautiful rose I have two standards, and out of all my roses
Bonica is the only one that does not get black spot, or eaten by anything.
And the flowers stay on the plant for ages, you will be very happy with it.

Jean and Jan, yes Henry is worried about another addiction.

Today we walked round the yard looking for spots to put the Simpson washing machine bowls (remember them) well I have six and they are all now painted green and will house Bonica and Peace which I nipped in and bought today, don't know what the others will be planted with but I will see how I go whth these two roses for a while.

Marion, who spent a lot of time just looking at Beautiful Bonica today.

Marion, Marion, MARION!

Run for your life! You are catching the ROSE VIRUS... there is no cure - except to buy MORE and MORE.

You will spend you days trying to find places to plant MORE.. you will sob over weaklings.. learn to be ruthless (has anyone ever been ruth?)and shovel prune non-performers hurling them carelessly on to the bonfire.

You will become expert on black spot and mildew, time your holidays to Victoria to cooincide the the flowering of the heritage rose head at Werribee Park, learn the names of 100 year old roses, discourse knowledgably on the difference between a hybrid musk and a tea rose,....you will fall in love with Mermaid,(we all do at some stage) and like the rest of us - need a blood transfusion after she GRABS you..

You wil learn to smile and say little when relatives say - "and how many roses do you have" - telling them the truth - 300 - will give them something to talk about over lunch for the next six months... "Marion has 300 roses, must have cost her a FORTUNE, and dear, she's out there in all weathers working on them, her complexion hasn't been the same..."

Ah Marion... Run NOW while there's still time...

Or - just join in with the rest of us addicts.... WELCOME dear WELCOME...

Fran, I am trying to run,

I am not going to town again

Henry will have to do the shopping

I will go and look at my other addictions and ask them to help be back on the straight and narrow.

Help.

YEH, I have caught it too. Don't have access to the rose nurseries here so have to live on pictures in rose forums and other places on the internet. My favourite book is Yates Roses by Roger Mann. Talks about roses in Oz. Then there is Bonannica's Roses. As well as etc etc. Now I have some catalogues from southern suppliers and am drooling and wondering how much the bank can stand, can I find places for them, does it matter etc.
Welcome to rose addiction.
Cheers
Judy

There's no better addiction in the world.
The glorious blooms make your heart sing and feed your soul as your bank account empties.:)

Bonica ,what a beautiful rose.Isn't it funny how something just catches your eye and before you know it you have helped it into your trolley.
I actually know someone with the last name of Bonica and they are not as pretty looking.I'll bet that si the rose they have lining their driveway.
Hope I see one in my travels soon ,I need to replace a few that the rabbits got to.
I would rather be addicted to roses that anything else.

RE: I fell in Love today

Yes a great choice and welcome to the rose forum. I am totally besotted and preoccupied with them. I love this hobby. I have been a rose addict for only 2-3 years ,my collection going from 2 twigs struck by a dear friend to a last count of about 45!!
You have to laugh--as they are in huge containers (we are redoing the garden)and I often loose track of which is which ,I suggested I would have to put them in alphabetical order- my daughter (15years)nearly died!! She thinks her Mum has finally lost it!!!
Welcome and we look forward to see how you are going.
Cheers
Michelle
