Delbard Roses -Paul Cezanne

I am so excited.
I managed to find a sensational bush of Paul Cezanne with loads of buds.
I have also ordered a Chartruese de Parme.
After the Delbard exhibit at the Melb Flower Show I couldnt resist.I found a nursery that has stock of Delbards.

The backyard is looking rather overcrowded!!!so I really must stop buying now.But I cant resist!
A friend and I went to visit Magic Gardens in Healseville a few days ago. It was a great day- great weather.
I bought a Lovely Lady standard there. I will post a pic soon.
cheers
Michelle

The Delbard catalogue from France said the perfume of Paul Cezanne was bewitching, but seeing how their photos don't show accurate rose colours, I wonder what bewitching really means. So how DO they smell?

RE: Delbard Roses -Paul Cezanne

oh please.......if you want to pay 15-25 $$ for a rose..fine....but please...look through your books...you'll find old varieties that are REMARKABLY similar to the ones in which you refer...go the oldies...they work!

 o
RE: Delbard Roses -Paul Cezanne

and I hope you have a nice day too:))

RE: Delbard Roses -Paul Cezanne

sorry roseforme....please don't think i'm trying to " rain on your parade"....i can only speak as a proffessional rose grower who see's the 'marketing' of roses being of more import than the roses themselves.....whilst i think that the vast majority of new release roses are either re-inventing the wheel or rubbish....i still advise people NOT to listen to cranky rose growers and buy something you like and give them a go.....if it's something you LOVE...then who cares if it costs 20 $$$ or more!......better a rose than a pack of smokes?!.......be advised that i still get a kick out of someone that sees a perfect bloom of say...double delight...for the first time...so please roseforme....love your roses.....tony

Thanks for that , I am new to all this and as you are a rose grower you no doubt see the industry from a different angle.
Yes, lets love the roses!! :))

I know what you mean Brenton. I was reading up the other day and came to descriptions of DA roses, and it said that Moonbeam, the lovliest of lovely roses, of which DA should be so proud, is now a "collector's item" due to the fatc it doesn't look like all the others.
Why rush out and buy his this year's newbie just because it's this year's newbie.. when something like Moonbeam, that flowers it's head off, is tough, healthy and BEAUTIFUL gets to be a "collector's item".
Float some of her blooms in a bowl when you have visitors and see that they say.
Many of the oldies are just gorgeous.
And if you want Delbard - Chris and Marie's plant Farm are flogging them at a price ;-) go to hellohello

Yes there are many "painted roses" Harry Wheatcroft and oranges and lemons, so many I have, also all the Delbards too.It depends what type of garden you are trying to picture.
Hi Brenton and Franny friend!

hi fran...i suppose it's a case of marketing being rampant in all industries. i see so much mis information when it comes to roses...most of it from "garden show experts"....books.....and growers!... i suppose though that i forget that my views are a bit tainted by the fact that i'm in the industry and so see the nonesense for what it is....maybe it's a reflection of my personality.....don't re-invent the wheel....all your "new-release" were probably released 20 years ago.....buy some nice plants...learn the basics...enjoy the roses....it's not all that hard!..anyway............

Brenton: I have thought about your suggestion of the "old" roses.I need to have a look at the books but I have a Yolande d Aragon which I think is classed as an old garden rose: fabulous form and knockout perfume.
Perhaps that is the way to go.
I am disappointed in a major way with my Paul Cezanne. It is nothing like what I expected, no pink colouring (yet)in the blooms, just yellow. Nothing like the colouring of the ones I saw at the Melb. Flower Show.
Anyway it is a young bush, maybe I will have to wait for it to mature a bit.
Cheers

My Harry Wheatcrofts are really lovely, framed by the dark of the trees behinds them.
Scentimental is amazing as far as a stipy rose, but I think Candystrip is still me favorite, the mauve tint to it's red is always so fresh.
Hi Lynne!!! Got any rain? We have had five whole ml here..

Rosesforme: Might I just say, having had quite a good deal of experience with Delbard Roses (I presume they send the same ones to Australia), that the first year is often a bit disappointing. Just wait - the second year they really get going!! I haven't got a Paul Cezanne, but have Epidor, Chartreuse de Parme, Mamy Blue, Citron-Fraise, Michel Bras, Pierre Gagnaire, Bassino, and Crepe de Chine. I don't find the colours all that different from the catalogue. Have you had a look at their website over here in France?

Here is a link that might be useful: Delbard

Just noticed that K-mart have bagged delbard roses for $14.98 - but take care - I did buy one and found that whilst the plants are strong and healthy the roots sit short in the bag and there is a separation in the wet sawdust which is making the roots dry out quicker than usual due to this gap.
